I don’t think writing a murder or robbery mystery is very easy to byomkesj, and I think Saradindu Bandyopadhyay did a good job in making them both believable and exciting. In many places, the English is typically early-twenty-first-century Indian, in a way that lac Translations, as I’ve written before, are always tricky.

I’m going to look for other translations of his work, though, to see if they read better than this one did. Part nostalgia, part brilliance! And in The Quills of the Porcupine, the shrewd detective is in his element as he expertly foils the sinister plans of a ruthless opportunist. The cover of the book is not attractive and it is only the title, the author’s name and the blurb that will attract readers towards this book at first glance.

My copy was a collection of some of the best Bakshi stories. The books takes you on a journey of late era.

I had bought this book to relive those moments I had spent glued to Doordarshan and watching Rajit Kapoor enacting the role of Byomkesh Bakshi. Like Manasi had mentioned in her review, there are very few English translation available. Just a moment while we sign you in to your Goodreads account. The story is set in in the Chinabazar area of Kolkata where a ‘non government detective’ Byomkesh Bakshi, owing to the permission from the police commissioner, starts living in a mess in that area under the pseudonym of Atul Chandra Mitra to probe a series of murders.

I truly fell in love with him after watching the very famous TV series based on his cases that aired on Doordarshan and featured Rajit Kapoor as Byomkesh. Perfectly translated, India’s original Sherlock Holmes: Byomkesh the Truth Seeker has such an amazing intellect that I was equally surprised after every case.

I’ll keep the review short and simply say that this is a treat which one must englisn. Better than the TV series! Certainly worth downloading and spending a winter’s afternoon delightfully, with this collection.

Safe and Secure Payments. All the four cases covered in this book are among the best of Byomkesh’s career and I loved reading them. Byomkesh Bakshi is an evergreen character of a Bengali Investigator who despised the word “Detective” to describe his profession but instead liked to call himself a “Truth Seeker”.

A great addition to my book collection, this book is a must have and one that can be read and re-read any number of times. The stories are not very complicated but very grasping, with a long series of events. I bought this book after my friends recommended it, and I can say the book is marvelous.
