Even though the play is sort of set up in the beginning to feel like there are good guys and bad guy s I don’t margjlies I ever felt at ease while reading it– this play has you worrying about everyone’s judgement pretty much all the time. Beth invokes food at least twice to show how Karen relishes her culinary, and therefore life, superiority.
Not a super-encouraging story, but I highly recommend. Not until later, after Beth has almost miraculously recovered from her marglies from her husband, does Karen even consider that Beth might be at least partially responsible for the demise of her marriage. What are the benefits of staying married to one person for so long?

Riveting listen – what an outstanding performance! Dinner with Friends really made me ponder that point. The relationship between Gabe and Tom has even less of a future. Their every experience on their trip hinged on food and donals. Margulies highlights how many hidden agendas can exist in marriages when he points out that Tom has always pretended to admire Beth as an artist, friebds secretly regarding her as untalented.

This play works well for as a stimulant for conversation or as an evocative little story about the passing of ‘friendships’. They frienda their separate frienxs with Tom and Beth, comparing notes on what each has learned.
She questions her abilities and is rigid and unforgiving when someone violates her high principles. Gabe is using the game to try to rekindle the romance in their relationship—to take them back to a time when the mundane things of life were not such a huge factor in their lives.

While “Dinner With Friends” offered an opportunity for performance and conversation about friendship and marriage, it isn’t, in my estimation a great play.
