Beth invokes food at least twice to show how Karen relishes her culinary, and therefore life, superiority.

Not a super-encouraging story, but I highly recommend. Not until later, after Beth has almost miraculously recovered from her marglies from her husband, does Karen even consider that Beth might be at least partially responsible for the demise of her marriage. Riveting listen – what an outstanding performance! Dinner with Friends really made me ponder that point. The relationship between Gabe and Tom has even less of a future. Their every experience on their trip hinged on food and donals. Margulies highlights how many hidden agendas can exist in marriages when he points out that Tom has always pretended to admire Beth as an artist, friebds secretly regarding her as untalented.
